Women's Health Centre INVICTA provides services in the field of oncology. At the Oncology Department our Patients can benefit from experts' advice. At the department we provide, inter alia, the following examinations and treatments:

  • Fine needle biopsy

Fine needle biopsy is a diagnostic method involving the insertion of a very fine needle (slightly thicker than a hair) to the tumor under ultrasound guidance. After the puncture, small amount of cellular material is expelled onto a glass slide and preserved in alcohol. Smears are then examined under a microscope by a specialist pathologist.
Fine needle biopsy is used primarily to diagnose nodules - to distinguish benign nodules from malignant ones. This method is fast and non - burdensome for the patient.
The procedure is safe and usually painless. The patient does not require any preparation prior to the examination.

At INVICTA clinic we provide following biopsies:

    -breast biopsy
    -thyroid biopsy
    -nodes biopsy

  • Mammography

Mammography is a radiological method for breast examination (mammary gland) the radiation exposure during mammography  is similar to the dose received during the tooth X-ray. So you should not be afraid of this examination. It is totally non-invasive. During the procedure, the breast is placed on a cassette and compressed with a paddle, one from above and one from the side, which allows to obtain two images. The compression takes a few seconds. If a woman feels the painful tension in the breasts before menstruation, it is suggested to perform the examination in other phase of the cycle, unless your doctor has recommended otherwise.

  • Genetic predisposition to developing tumors – BRCA

BRCA mutation test is a diagnostic test, that allows to detect congenital predisposition to disease - therefore, it enables to identify situations of increased risk and take steps ensuring early detection of possible disease, at the stage enabling great chance of recovery.

BRCA genes are genes whose mutations predispose to breast cancer. Mutations in these genes predispose not only to breast cancer but also to ovarian cancer

BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the best known genes, associated with a family breast cancer and ovarian cancer are BRCA1 and BRCA2 (BReast  CAncer). BRCA1 gene is one of the suppressor anti-cancer genes. The protein encoded by this gene is responsible for repairing DNA damage. The presence of mutations in the BRCA1 gene increases the risk of breast cancer or nipple cancer.
This examination should be performed by women with family history of breast cancer.
